The Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck (2006) popularized the idea of mindsets by contrasting different beliefs about where our abilities come from.  There are two types of mindsets.  There is the fixed mindset and then there is the growth mindset.  In everything we do our mindset matters and affects everything that we do in our daily lives.  Our reaction to situations and how we respond in the daily world are effected by our fixed or growth mindset. The fixed mindset holds to the idea that our abilities are fixed traits and we can't succeed beyond these fixed traits such as intelligence and talent.  The growth mindset simply believes holds to the idea that even the simplest abilities can be developed and improved, which creates someone who has a fixed mindset might refer to someone as a natural athlete.  It is so important to consider your thoughts and your mindsets when planning out your goals for your life and your business.  These two different mindsets can work for you and also against you.  Which mindset do you have? Growth Mindset

  • Belief that intelligence develops and evolves with time and effort 
  • Motivated by self development through learning
  • Perceive and seek out challanges as opprotunities to expand their intelligence and ability
  • Failures are seen as key to the process of learning leading to positive outcomes

Fixed Mindset 

  • Believe that intelligence and ability are inherent and unchangeable 
  • When hey experience setbacks or failures they tend to be reluctant to seek help
  • They perceive help seeking as "neediness" and incompetence
